Drake Veit walked away from the Ray of Hope Treatment facility while the students were outside. When the other children went inside, the boy ran the other direction into the woods.
The faculty knew the child disappeared right away and they ran after him, but could not find him in the wooded area and notified police.
Police were able to locate the child just after 4:30 p.m. near Woodpecker Court and Rawls Drive in Raleigh.
