Chief Warrant Officer Michael Duskin was killed in Afghanistan two weeks ago.
The 42-year-old Special Forces soldier was on his fifth tour of duty when he was killed in the combat zone.
Chief Duskin also helped civilian law enforcement agencies train on post, including members of Raleigh Police and the Harnett County Sheriff's Department.
"Mike was one of those guys if you needed something, you go to Mike. Just a huge guy with a big heart, and he was the kind of guy he would help anyone," retired Harnett County Sheriff Deputy Jesse Neighbors said.
Chief Duskin's funeral will be held Saturday at the JFK Chapel on Fort Bragg. Burial plans have not been announced.
