NCCU opens center for student veterans

DURHAM, N.C.

The Veterans Center is in the Miller-Morgan building at the campus in Durham.

N.C. Central held a Veterans Day ceremony and a grand opening of the center together Monday.

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund provided a grant of more than $18,000 to help establish the center.

NCCU veterans coordinator Tomeka Davis says a campus is unfamiliar territory for many veterans, who are accustomed to a structured environment. She says that's often the opposite of what happens in a college classroom.
