Police still investigating toddler's disappearance

DURHAM

Kameron Hembry was reported missing around 2:15 p.m. from an apartment complex in the 2500 block of South Roxboro Street. An Amber Alert for the child was later issued around 7 p.m.

Two hours later, authorities said the toddler was found unharmed inside an apartment less than 50 yards from where he went missing.

Authorities said a TV was on inside the apartment, but the tenants weren't home at the time.

Police have spoken to the boy's mother who said they were visiting someone at the apartment complex when her son went missing.

His mother said she told the boy to follow her to their car, but when she turned her back for a minute he disappeared.

Investigators are still trying to determine how the child got inside the apartment and how long he was actually there.

It's unclear if the tenants at the apartment knew Hembry's mother.

Police are still investigating.
