Tenants: Intruder broke into home during Amber Alert

DURHAM, N.C.

Two-year-old Kameron Hembry was reported missing Nov. 12. Seven hours later, investigators found the child in the apartment next door to where he was visiting.

The tenants who live in the South Roxboro Street apartment where Hembry was found told ABC11 they were out of town at the time of the Amber Alert. They said they believe someone broke into their apartment and that the unknown intruder is the reason why the little boy ended up inside their home.

Police have not filed any charges in the case. Officials said they are still investigating and conducting interviews.

While the Department of Social Services is also investigating, Hembry has been back in his mother's care since the incident.
