It happened Tuesday around 5:40 p.m. on Vass Carthage Road near Dicks Hill Road.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said James Westbrook Jr., 69, pulled out in front of a log truck and was struck. He died at the scene.
The truck driver was not injured. No one else was involved in the accident.
The investigation is ongoing at this time, but authorities said they do not anticipate any charges against the truck driver.
Westbrook was recently appointed interim Moore County Manager. He previously worked in Fayetteville, Cary and Asheville.
