Secret Santas brighten shoppers holidays in Durham

DURHAM

The store's owner said it made for an unforgettable experience. Miguel Collado is still overcome with emotion recalling what happened inside the Los Primos Supermarket on Tuesday.

"I was crying. People were crying. People wanted to hug me," said store owner Miguel Collado. "It was incredible. People were trying to hug me everywhere, trying to hug Santa. It was great. It was the most beautiful amazing thing that I've seen in my life."

Two women dressed in a Santa suit and an elf costume spent around $3,200 paying the bills for close to 40 total strangers.

"We had no shopping carts. There were groceries all over the place, and the meat case was empty," said Collado.

The identities of the holiday helpers remain anonymous for now. However, an eyewitness who emailed ABC11 said they were two off-duty Durham firefighters.
