Officers got a call for a shooting just after 7 a.m. at a home in the 1200 block of Montgomery Street Ext.
When police arrived, they found 24-year-old Deyon Durham dead from a gunshot wound.
Police said it appeared that a breaking and entering was in progress and the homeowner confronted Durham with a firearm.
The incident is being investigated and will be reviewed by the district attorney's office.
The name of the homeowner has not been released.
No charges have been filed at last report.
