It happened around 1: 40 a.m. at mile marker 175 near Broad Street, just north of Guess Road in Durham.
The accident shut down both directions of I-85 for several hours as authorities worked to clear the scene. Around 5 a.m., traffic was flowing normally.
Authorities have not said what caused the truck hauling detergent to crash. Further details about the incident have not been released at this time.
