Authorities said an investigation revealed that 32-year-old Phillip Hunter Gilfus of Duck Court embezzled $2,132 from the Democratic Men's Club, by writing checks to himself.
They said a total of 10 checks were written on an account assigned to Capital Bank between November 15, 2011 and July 19, 2012.
Gilfus, who was the Democratic Men's Club treasurer, turned himself in to authorities Wednesday morning. He was later released under a $2,000 secured bond.
