Mayor asks store to remove semi-automatic weapons

MORRISVILLE, N.C.

Morrisville Mayor Jackie Holcombe has set her sights on Morrisville's brand-new Gander Mountain store. She's calling on the outdoor goods retailer to stop selling semi-automatic rifles and high capacity magazines in the wake of the massacre at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The mayor wrote an open letter to the CEO of Gander Mountain requesting the company pull the weapons off its shelves much like Dick's Sporting Goods did last month in response the school shooting tragedy.

Holcombe said she's just voicing the concerns of her community.

"They're concerned about having semi-auto military weapons sold in Morrisville and they're concerned about, quite frankly, their safety," said Holcombe.

Gander Mountain declined to comment.
