The accident happened just after 4 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Elkhorn Road, just off of Timber Drive
Police said a car slammed into a home and burst into flames after hitting a natural gas line.
Initially, authorities thought the driver was dead inside the vehicle. However, once the fire was put out, a body was not found inside the car.
The homeowner was able to escape safely, but the house appears to be a total loss.
Joe Wimberly lives down the street from the home. He and his family had woken up after a power outage, and they happened to witness the fire.
"We were kind of worried at first, then when we saw the owner come around from the back with his two dogs, and apparently the story was that he was able to, he had heard the initial impact, and was able to get out of the house before the house was engulfed in flames," Wimberly said.
