6 arrested in school bus stop shooting

SMITHFIELD, N.C.

The shooting took place Jan. 3 at 509 Mill Street.

A 24-year-old male, a woman in her 20s, and her 3-year-old son were all shot at a school bus stop around 1:45 p.m.

The investigation has lead to charges for Attempted First Degree Murder, Drug charges and Conspiracy charges as well as evidence tampering.

The following individuals have been charged:

Antwan Hawkins and Amos Stokes both face three counts of attempted first degree murder, conspiracy to commit first degree murder, accessory after the fact, and possession of firearm by felon. Hawkins is being held under $1,500,000 bond. Stokes was given a $1,020,000 bond.

Patrena Dayes is charged with accessory after the fact and conspiracy to commit first degree murder. Dayes is being held under $200,000 bond.

Shanquan Padgett faces two counts of possession of firearm by felon and one charge of possession of stolen firearm and is being held under $110,000 bond.

Jalil Sanders is charged with trafficking cocaine, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance, and possession of cocaine.  He was given $75,000 bond.

Margaret Peacock is charged with altering/destroying evidence and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substance. Her bond is $10,000.
