Neighbors want end to Raleigh 'party mansion'

RALEIGH

Neighbors say they went to court to keep their neighborhood from turning into an MTV video.

"There were girls doing lap dances out by the pool. It was crazy," said neighbor Shawn MacArthur.

Neighbors claim the multi-million dollar home on Marion Stone Way in Raleigh hosted loud, wild pool parties where waivers had to be signed, women were scantily clad, and drugs were used.

Homeowner Pamela Verbal is now charged with criminal contempt after allegedly disobeying a judge's order not to host any more affairs at her home on Marion Stone Way.

MacArthur lives down the road from the home that's been dubbed the "metropolitan mansion." He attended one of the parties last summer thinking it was a housewarming party.

"It was the combination of Playboy mansion, nightclub, go-go bar," said MacArthur. "It was all right out there. I walked around with my mouth open in awe this was happening in my neighborhood."

Verbal was home Thursday but wouldn't open the door to answer questions. Her attorney denied anything illegal ever happened at the home.

"The parties have stopped. There are no lavish parties being thrown here," said attorney Tiffany Russell.

As for Verbal hosting a party after she was ordered not to, the attorney couldn't comment because the court actions are still going on. A court date hasn't been set yet on the criminal contempt charges.

"We could care less about getting a dime from her," said MacArthur. "We just want the parties to stop."

It's not the first time Verbal has been in trouble with the law. In 2008, she was indicted on federal tax fraud charges.

The house is now for sale. It's listed on the market for nearly three million dollars.
