The accident happened on Morganton Road around 3:15 a.m.
Officials said a 2002 Ford truck was traveling outbound, when the driver ran off the right side of the road and hit the pole. Once the truck collided with the utility pole, it caught on fire, killing the driver.
Police have not identified the deceased person.
Power was out in the area of Morganton Road near Bonanza Drive immediately following the accident. It has since been restored.
