The details of the meeting are unclear, but the case is unusual when it comes to jurisdiction.
While Hedgepeth was killed inside her Chapel Hill apartment in September 2012, the case will eventually be prosecuted by the Durham County D.A.'s office.
On Friday, the Durham Chief Superior Court Judge signed an order resealing the warrants and other documents related to the case for at least another 60 days.
Meanwhile, the UNC campus and the victim's family wait for an arrest.
"Whenever they make that arrest, it's going to stick. I know it will, because there's not going to be any questions," mother Connie Hedgepeth said.
Chapel Hill investigators have closely guarded the details of the case, but they have said it was not a random act of violence. Early in the investigation the FBI created a profile for the possible killer, suggesting that Faith might have known her attacker. Investigators also collected a male suspect's DNA, but there have been no arrests.
There is a $39,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
