Deputies raid alleged underground gambling hall

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.

An anonymous tip led investigators to the home of 54-year-old Soon Ju Lunsford in Fayetteville's LaGrange subdivision.

Lunsford was arrested and faces several charges in connection with maintaining the gambling operation.

Deputies said five people were inside the home at the time of the raid. Three were playing video poker games and were issued citations for illegal gambling.  They were later released.

Detectives seized eight gaming machines, an undetermined amount of money, and recovered a handgun.

Lunsford was released under a $16,000 unsecured bond.

This latest raid is just the tip of the iceberg in Sheriff Earl Butler's effort to stop illegal gaming in Cumberland County.  Butler says he will continue with efforts to enforce laws banning gambling operations in the state.
