The crowd grew throughout the evening with funny hats, and a 1,250 pound acorn at the centerpiece.
"It's love all night. Everybody's loving each other," said Jemal Braithwaite, of Clayton. "There's no arguments. There's no fights. It's just peaceful. It's a peaceful night."
"Just the fun, the people, the atmosphere, the lights," said Travis workman, of Raleigh.
"It's been a blast. Lots of fun walking around with kids," said Elizabeth Workman, of Raleigh. "Lots of activities for all the kids to do. It's like every time we walk around they're excited about something more."
Last year, an estimated 80,000 people attended First Night in Raleigh.
The massive acorn dropped at 7 p.m. for children and at midnight for the adults.
However, Raleigh is not the only "drop" around the state. The Mt. Olive Pickle Company held its 15th annual New Year's Eve Pickle Drop at the Corner of Cucumber and Vine in Mount Olive, N.C. Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The town of Pembroke also celebrated the end of 2013 with the help of a nearly 400-pound pine cone.
The Fayetteville Observer reported the town is held its first New Year's Eve Pine Cone Crop at the Pembroke Recreational Complex.
The pine cone is made of handcrafted sheet metal leaves that range from dark to light in color.
