Suspect robs elderly couple in their Fayetteville home

FAYETTEVILLE

They say 45-year-old Sonny Stetson burst into the home in the 2500 block of Southern Avenue just before 7 p.m. Thursday.

He then placed a pair of hedge shears on the neck of an 81-year-old Annie Williams and threatened to kill her if her 84 year-old husband, John Williams, didn't give him cash.

Stetson then forced the couple into a bathroom before fleeing the scene with an undetermined amount of money.

Police say Stetson was known to the couple and had recently rented a home near their property.

On Sunday, Stetson was taken into custody and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of second degree kidnapping, and first-degree burglary.

He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.
