A state party attorney confirmed Sunday night that Robert Dempsey is no longer the executive director. David Harris said Dempsey's departure occurred Sunday, but would give no further explanation, saying it was a personnel matter.
The party's organizational structure says the executive director serves at the pleasure of Chairman Randy Voller.
Dempsey came to the state party in May and was the choice of a search committee led by Voller. Dempsey previously worked for the Vermont Democratic Party and a California congressional campaign.
Dempsey didn't immediately respond to an email.
The North Carolina party is trying to rebound after extensive losses during the 2010 and 2012 elections.
