It happened around 7:15 Tuesday evening at a home in the 300-block of Oakwater Drive.
Deputies said they found 31-year-old Jimmy Bell wounded in a wooded area near the home. He was rushed to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Deputies said they were talking with a person who has claimed responsibility for the shooting. No charges have been filed as the investigation goes on.
