It happened around 1 a.m. in the 2700 block of Ramsey Street near Northwest Avenue.

Police said the driver, later identified as 43-year-old Terrance Murray Smith, was going south down Ramsey Street when his 2012 Chrysler went off the road and struck a tree near Circle Court. It was unclear what caused Smith to veer off the roadway.
Smith died at the scene, according to authorities. No one else was inside the vehicle.
The accident is still under investigation.
