One charged in Fayetteville shooting death

Fayetteville, N.C.

Officers discovered 37-year-old David Washington around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Lamon Street near Ramsey Street. He had been shot. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Around 10 p.m., a Fayetteville police officer spotted Washington's Cadillac and tried to pull it over. The driver took off, and the chase ended in a mobile home park on Cattail Circle near the Sapona Road corridor.

Twenty-one-year-old Datorius Lane McLymore was taken into custody. He's charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and fleeing arrest.  He was held without bond.

Police said Washington had only been in the Fayetteville area for about three weeks. He worked in periodical sales.
