Police arrest man in North Carolina State University groping incident

RALEIGH

The N.C. State Police Department said Ryan McNeil Jr. allegedly walked up to a female student from behind and touched her in a sexual way. It happened just before 7 a.m. Friday near Dabney Hall.

McNeil then fled the area on foot. There was no weapon displayed, used or implied.

After police circulated surveillance pictures, McNeil was taken into custody in downtown Raleigh near the convention center after a R-Line bus driver alerted authorities he was on the bus.

Police said McNeil admitted to the crime. He has been charged with sexual battery, which is a misdemeanor. His bond was set at $2,500 for that charge and $25,000 for an identity theft charge for originally giving police the wrong name.
