APEX, NC (WTVD) -- The Highway Patrol has charged a man after a cyclist was hit and killed by a pickup truck near Apex on Friday.
Troopers say it happened around 6:30 a.m. on N.C. 751 in Chatham County. A Chevy pickup truck being driven by Ramsey Capps, 42, of Apex and the bicyclist, Jason Markley, 36, of Cary were both headed south.
Markley tried to make a left turn and was hit from behind, according to authorities. Markley died at the scene.
Capps was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. He was not injured.
Records show Capps was charged with driving with a revoked license and no insurance in 2009.
It's the second serious crash involving cyclists in the Triangle this month. October 18, a man in an SUV ran into a group of four cyclists in Cary. One woman was left clinging to life.
However, WakeMed said on Monday that Lori Cove's condition has improved from critical to serious.
