ENFIELD (WTVD) -- A Halifax County plant that makes replacement windshields for vehicles is closing, putting 210 people out of work.
The Safelite Glass Corp. plant in Enfield will close by Oct. 10.
The plant has been in operation since 1970 and makes about 1 million replacement windshields a year.
But the company said in a statement that it can't continue to make investments needed to make more complex windshield designs in the future.
Safelite President and Chief Executive Tom Feeney says that the company tried to find ways to keep the plant open by working with state and local officials.
"This decision is by no means a reflection of the community, our associates or our products," Feeney said.
To help displaced workers, Safelite is providing separation packages and referrals for others jobs within and outside the company.
