Man killed in crash near Carolina Pines Community Center in Raleigh

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A man is dead and a woman is injured following a crash in Raleigh on Tuesday morning.

The wreck happened just after 1 a.m. near the Carolina Pines Community Center off Lake Wheeler Road.

Police said an officer approached a suspicious vehicle which was parked near the center.

After contact with the driver, Devonte Anderson, and passenger, the officer went back to his car to start his investigation.

During that time, Anderson sped off and the officer followed shortly behind.

Seconds later, the officer caught up to the car which had left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

Anderson was pronounced dead on the scene; the woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
