RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Chelsea Clinton appeared at the Women in Tech and Innovation Panel in downtown Raleigh Wednesday, campaigning on behalf of her mother, Hillary Clinton.

Moderated by entrepreneur Brooks Bell, Clinton focused on her mother's plan to invest in education, technology and innovation with an emphasis on small business.

"When I graduated from Stanford about one in five of the college graduates in the STEM field that year, in 2001 were women. And now we're less than 15 percent so we're losing ground," she said.

Clinton said her mom wants to stop that trajectory and plans to build on President Barack Obama's plan to recruit more STEM teachers, particularly recruiting more women deliberately.

She said there also needs to be a revamp on teaching STEM teachers to teach.

"We have to invest in our public education system" Clinton said.

The former first daughter also appeared at the Carborro campaign office Wednesday for a voter registration drive.

On Tuesday, Clinton helped open a campaign office in Durham and held a women in leadership panel at Wake Forest University.
