Downtown Raleigh Alliance announces "Flashback Friday" movie events
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Downtown Raleigh Alliance is ready to go back in time this summer with their "Flashback Friday" PNC Downtown Raleigh Movie Series.
The DRA announced Thursday that they will transform City Plaza into an urban cinema center to feature 80s classics.
Aside from the throwback flicks, City Plaza will have local food trucks, a microbrew beer tent, a live DJ, and more.
The DRA estimates their "Flashback Friday" events will draw thousands to downtown Raleigh.
"The PNC Downtown Raleigh Movie Series enhances downtown's quality of life by offering a memorable outdoor experience during the summer," said Jean Carroll, Special Events Coordinator of the DRA. "By hosting a throwback 80s themed series, we seek to attract the growing millennial crowd to downtown's City Plaza on Friday evenings to revel in nostalgia."
For six Fridays, moviegoers can enjoy a unique cinema experience absolutely free of charge. The events are open to the public.
The 80s classics will be shown on a large 40x60 foot outdoor movie screen. Chair sponsor, Red Hat, will provide 250 chairs for attendees, but encourages the public to bring their own seats and blankets.

May 29-Ferris Bueller's Day Off
June 5-The Goonies
June 12-Back to the Future
June 19-The Karate Kid
June 26-The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, a documentary from Durham's Full Frame Festival
