Hospital condition improves for mom accused in crash that killed her son

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Raleigh mother accused of being drunk behind the wheel in a crash that took the life of her son is now in "good condition" at the hospital.

Officials at Wake Med gave the update on Laura Smith.

When Smith is released from the hospital, she'll head straight to jail.

Her 12-year-old son Antony Smith died last month.

Raleigh Police say the 49-year-old was speeding and driving drunk when she lost control of her vehicle before hitting a tree on Creedmoor Road.

Smith's blood alcohol level was four times the legal limit in North Carolina.
