DURHAM (WTVD) -- Part of the southbound Durham Freeway (N.C. 147) will be closed Thursday and Friday nights as part of the East End Connector project.

The DOT said the contractor needs to set up girders for a flyover bridge that will carry southbound traffic onto the new roadway being built to connect the Freeway with U.S. 70.

The closure on Thursday and Friday night will be from Alston Avenue/N.C. 55 (Exit 11) to Ellis Road (Exit 8). There will be right lane closures between 8 p.m. and midnight both nights, with a complete closure set between midnight and 5 a.m.

There will be a detour off the highway at Alston Avenue/N.C. 55, then left on Cornwallis Road and left on T.W. Alexander Drive to get back on N.C. 147. Northbound traffic won't be affected.

The DOT reminds drivers to slow down, use caution, and pay attention to detour signs.
