Early voting had few voter ID issues, officials say
Elections officials across the Triangle are preparing for Primary Election Day with great expectations.
Wake and Orange counties saw record turnout during early voting; boards of elections directors expressed that the state's new Voter ID law didn't have a negative impact.
"I will admit, I was nervous," said Gary Sims, director of the Wake County Board of Elections. "I think a lot of elections officials were nervous about the Voter ID, but I think the State Board of Elections did an amazing job on their marketing, getting the word out there."
Out of the 55,601 voters who cast a ballot during early voting in Wake County, Sims said only 77 did not have a proper ID. They were able to cast a provisional ballot that will be reviewed after the primary.
Sims said if you're registered to vote but don't have the proper ID, still come to the polls Tuesday.
"Bring the ID that you have with you and let our precinct officials help you," he said. "We don't want people turning around and just deciding not to vote."
