FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police have filed charges in a crash that killed a 19-year-old Fort Bragg soldier earlier this week.

Gordon Gardner, 32, is charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Holden Philbrook was driving his motorcycle on Cliffdale Road Monday evening when he crashed into the side of a pickup truck that was turning in front of him.

Police said the crash happened when Gardner pulled out of the center lane to make a left turn into the Brookstone apartment complex.

Most of the oncoming traffic had stopped for Gardner. He was unable to see Philbrook, who had driven around the stopped cars and into the open inner lane.

Gardner was not injured.
