Dozens of vendors ready for Hillsborough 'Junk Market'
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Since the economic downturn a few years ago, the business of "upcycling" has been booming. New stores are opening including Rusted Roots in Hillsborough where store owner Candace Herrero brings new life to old items.
"We take all rusty, farmhouse stuff and we turn it into something you can use today," Herrero explained.
This weekend, Herrero will hold her second Junk Market outside her Hillsborough store with more than 30 vendors as well as live music and food trucks.
"You never know what you're going to find," said Herrero. "Some of the stuff people are posting right now that they are building in their garages or barns just blows me away. Our junk markets are quarterly, so, we will have a junk market in September and a holiday junk market in November. You can find bicycle wheels turned into lamps, watering cans into lamps, water spickets turned into flowers. All kinds of stuff that is literally made from old junk."
Herrero says the Junk Market can also inspire you to re-purpose your own items.
The Junk Market is free and runs Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. outside Rusted Roots at 135 Daniel Boone Street, Hillsborough, N.C.
