Man dies after jumping from I-40 overpass in Durham

DURHAM, NC (WTVD) -- Durham police say an injured person found lying beneath an overpass on I-40 eastbound Wednesday afternoon jumped off the bridge.

It happened at the I-540 junction.

The person was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Traffic was down to one or two lanes while police and emergency workers did their jobs, but the highway reopened completely around 4:30 p.m.
