Nurse arrested at WakeMed charged with kidnapping woman, sex offense

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man employed as a nurse at WakeMed was arrested on the hospital campus Friday and is facing sex offense and kidnapping charges.

WakeMed said James Christopher Webb, 59, of Louisburg, is employed as a nurse and was working at the time of his arrest.

The arrest happened at the hospital's campus at 3000 New Bern Avenue in Raleigh.

Webb was charged with first-degree force sex offense and second-degree kidnapping in Wilson.

Warrants obtained by ABC11 said Webb restrained "a person who had attained the age of 16 or more" without consent and "for the purpose of terrorizing...and maintaining sexual servitude."

Webb was also charged with bringing a Smith & Wesson gun on educational property, according to warrants.

Warrants also said Webb carry concealed a switchblade and cold-fixed steel-blade dagger but did not specify whether those weapons were on him at WakeMed.

Webb is being held under a $505,000 bond.

In a statement to ABC11, WakeMed said:

"We take the safety and well-being of our staff, patients, volunteers and visitors very seriously and have numerous safety and security measures in place to ensure we are delivering on this commitment. We are continuously evaluating and improving the security of our facilities. In addition to our internal resources, we also engage external experts to assess each of our campuses and make recommendations for continuous improvement.

In this particular situation, Wilson Police Department made our Campus Police and Public Safety office aware of the charges against Mr. Webb, and we worked closely with them to make the arrest. The arrest was made without incident upon Webb's arrival in a parking deck."

Webb is scheduled to appear in Wake County court Monday morning on weapons charges and in Wilson County court on sex offense changes Wednesday morning.
