KKK literature found in Wake County

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Residents in some Wake County communities are upset after finding a flier from the Ku Klux Klan in their yards Monday morning.

"Never had anything like this before," said Jim Rogers. "My wife came out to check the mail, and it was lying in our driveway."

Inside of a clear plastic bag, weighted down with rocks, was a small flier criticizing Presidential candidate Jeb Bush. It stated: "A vote for Jeb Bush is a vote for open borders and for an accelerated browning of America."

The flier is signed by the Loyal White Knights of the KKK, which according the phone number listed on the flier and its website, is based in Pelham, N.C. When Rogers saw that name, he remembered already hearing a news report about them passing out similar fliers in California.

A man who identified himself as being with the Loyal White Knights returned ABC11's phone call for comment. He said he didn't have time for a more formal interview but told us they've been handing out the fliers all over the nation as a recruitment tool. They want to let people know the Klan is still very much active. The man said they started passing out the fliers last Thursday and have already received more than 280 calls back.

The fliers are also being handed out about three weeks ahead of a planned rally by the KKK in support of the Confederate flag. That rally is planned for July 18 at the Statehouse in South Carolina.

As for Rogers, he's hoping this is the last time a flier like that comes into his front yard.

"I think they're just trying to stir things up, and we don't need that," he said.
