LOUISBURG, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says it has a man in custody and has rescued a hostage after a two hour standoff.

It began just after 6 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Pineview Drive in Louisburg when deputies were dispatched to a disturbance call.

When they arrived, officers reported being fired on from inside a home. A man inside told deputies he had a hostage and fired more rounds inside the home.

Deputies backed off and the area was blocked off.

Deputies made contact with Joseph Flores by telephone, and he eventually came outside, where he was arrested. Police said the hostage, later identified as his mother, was not hurt.

Flores is charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, kidnapping, and communicating threats.

He was in the Franklin County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.
