Arrest made in fatal shooting in Cumberland County

The Cumberland County Sheriff's office arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting early Saturday morning on Tammy Street near Highway 210.

Officials say when they arrived to the scene, a person was yelling that a man had been shot. Medics at the scene began CPR and took the victim to Cape Fear Valley Heath System where he was pronounced dead.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's office responded to a shooting call early Saturday morning, Oct. 10, 2015, on Tammy Street near Highway 210.



The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Frederick Matthew Smith.

Homicide detectives arrested 22-year-old Osyris Jefferson on Saturday night. Jefferson is charged with second-degree murder.

Jefferson is being held in the Cumberland County Jail under a $1 million bond. His first court appearance is Oct. 13.
