RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The US Postal Service says shipments this holiday season increased by 10.5 percent over last year. They hired an additional 30,000 employees nationally during the holidays and added Sunday deliveries during the month of December. But some Triangle residents say they've been facing delays with their mail service.
"We have consistently been getting our mail at 8 o'clock, 9 o'clock at night," said Woodlawn resident Amy Wooten.
She said she and several of her neighbors are not only getting their mail late, they're getting other people's mail.
"We've also had some issues lately where mail is being delivered that doesn't belong to people," Wooten said. "Just before Christmas when I checked my mail every piece of mail in my box was for my neighbor."
Wooten said it is not only an inconvenience, it also brings up identity theft concerns if her mail ends up in the wrong hands.
"You certainly hope and pray that the people who get your mail do the right thing and send it back so that it can be delivered but you don't really have any assurances with that," she said.
The US Postal Service sent this statement: "During the week before Christmas, Raleigh-area Post Offices experienced high volumes and the Postal Service took many measures to ensure timely deliveries were made before Christmas day ... We apologize to any customer who did not have a positive experience when doing business with us."
The postal service says you should call 1-800-ASK-USPS if you have any issues with your mail service.
Some Woodlawn residents say they are perfectly happy with their mail service.
As for Wooten, she said she hopes this situation is fixed so she gets her mail on time.
