Police arrested Ricardo Anthony Dixon for multiple school break-ins

CHAPEL HILL/DURHAM (WTVD) -- A traffic stop in Chapel Hill Tuesday led to the arrest of a man wanted in connection with multiple school break-ins in Durham and Chapel Hill.

Police apprehended 35-year-old Ricardo Anthony Dixon of Durham after a Chapel Hill police officer attempted to stop him for speeding on NC 54 near US 15-501.

Authorities said Dixon did not stop and after a brief chase, he jumped from the car and ran into a wooded area. K-9s later tracked Dixon down.

Investigators said they quickly discovered that Dixon had been involved in a break-in that morning at Culbreth Middle School in Chapel Hill.

They later tied him to the Nov. 1 break-ins at Hope Valley Elementary School and Rogers-Herr Middle School and the Nov. 2 break-in at Hillside High School.

Dixon is charged with three counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny after breaking and entering, three counts of injury to property, and two counts of conspiracy in Durham.

He also faces misdemeanor injury to real property, felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods/property, felony breaking and entering/larceny, felony larceny after breaking and entering, felony possession of burglary tools and reckless driving charges in Chapel Hill.

Dixon is currently in the Orange County Jail.
