SPRING LAKE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Department of Labor confirms an electric work site death in Spring Lake Thursday.

An unidentified power lineman, who came in contact with 7200 volts, was killed in the 2300 block of Ray Road. The accident happened before noon on Thursday in front of the Little Red Hen Academy daycare.

The victim worked for the Aberdeen-based Lee Electrical Construction company. The company was contracted by South River Electric to relocate a power line along the stretch of road. The relocation is a part of a NCDOT widening project.

A manager with SRC said the man energized a wire along the power line that carried at least 7200 volts.

The Occupational, Safety and Health Division is investigating the incident. In standard procedures, they investigate workplace fatalities to ensure employees were properly trained and make sure there weren't any standards that were violated during the incident.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office is also investigating.
