WENDELL, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Rolesville High School football team took to the field for the first time since the death of teammate Isaiah Langston. He died last week after collapsing during pregame warm-up practice.
"He will never be forgotten. We'll make sure of that," said Rolesville High School Principal Ericka Lucas.
There was a tribute Friday night when Rolesville played East Wake. With heavy hearts, Langston's family members attended the game. It was one the 17-year-old was supposed to play. There was a moment of silence before the start of the game and balloons were released.
Hundreds of people came together to honor the teen, and also rally around his family and teammates.
"It kind of helps giving them that support and know that people is behind them," said student Alexandra Organ.
Langston collapsed on the field last Friday. The teen was rushed to the hospital and stayed on life support for days. We don't know the official cause of death, but Langston's brother told ABC11 that it was related to a blood clot in the brain.
"It's a little bit difficult to not have him now," said Lucas.
Lucas said she is focused now on making sure students stay positive after such a tragic loss.
"Isaiah was just a great kid and he led by example and so he taught them a lot and so that's my thing... just making sure that they learn lessons from all. Life's small lessons and make sure that we do the right thing," said Lucas.
A fund has been set up to help the Langston Family through this difficult time, if you wish to make a donation, visit http://www.gofundme.com/f9h60c.
