HAMPSTEAD, N.C. -- Pender County officials had to use boats to rescue six people after heavy rains caused flash flooding.

Authorities told local media outlets that about 7 inches of rain fell Saturday afternoon around Hampstead, Surf City and Topsail.

Crews rescued the stranded residents safely, No injuries were reported.

A flash flood watch remains Sunday for a half-dozen counties in southeastern North Carolina. Forecasters say more slow-moving storms with heavy rain are possible, and it won't take much to cause flash flooding since the ground is already saturated.
