Robbers target pizza delivery drivers in Fayetteville
FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Pizza delivery drivers, who have been the target of armed robbers in Fayetteville, are taking extra precaution following recent incidents.
Three have been held up in the Tiffany Pines Neighborhood since the end of February:
Feb. 23: Domino's delivery driver robbed at gunpoint at 4419 Ruby Road
March 3: Pizza Hut delivery driver robbed at gunpoint at 4419 Ruby Road
April 5: Domino's delivery driver robbed at gunpoint at 744 Emerald Drive
Police said that in each case the two men are armed with guns and wearing masks.
No one has been hurt so far, but delivery drivers are taking extra precautions.
At the Ramsey Street Domino's, a list of addresses where drivers have been attacked is posted on the wall. One driver said if staffing allows, personnel double up on their deliveries to watch one another's back. There is also a customer address verification system. If a driver sees that a porch light is off, or if they feel unsafe in general, they may refuse delivery and ask the customer to pick the order.
Stephen Carroll has worked at Domino's for about a year, and his co-workers are among those who have been held at gunpoint.
"It is a little ridiculous to me," said Carroll. "One thing that I've said jokingly since I started working here is that someone must be pretty hard up if they're having to rob a pizza guy, considering we only carry less than $20 on us at any given time."
Carroll said he'd like to carry a weapon of his own, but it's against company policy.
"I keep saying if anyone robs me, they're going to be practicing," said Carroll. "I don't even carry my wallet with me because I'm antsy about something like this happening to me."
