3 injured in Durham house fire

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Three people were injured in a fire that broke out at a Durham home on Friday night.

The Durham Fire Department (DFD) responded to the blaze in the 1200 block of Shepard Street around 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found a significant fire in the basement and on the first floor. Firefighters quickly deployed hoses and began extinguishing the flames.

One person was rescued from inside the home and transported to a hospital. Two others managed to escape to safety before DFD's arrival.

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, but the structure sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

DFD was supported by Durham County EMS, Durham police, and Duke Energy during the response.
