Thousands flock to Raleigh for Ironman
Andreas Dreitz and Merideth Kessler win race from Jordan Lake to downtown Raleigh

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Almost three thousand people from all over the world were in downtown Raleigh Sunday to compete for the LexisNexis Ironman.



The winner for the men and the first to finish overall was Andreas Dreitz from Germany.



"First time here in Raleigh, first time here in North Carolina and taking the win is awesome for me," said Dreitz.



The course was a 1.2 mile swim across Jordan Lake, a 56 mile bike ride through Wake and Chatham counties and a 13.1 mile run through downtown Raleigh to finish at City Plaza.



Dreitz completed the course in 3:50:41.



Meredith Kessler, from San Francisco was the first woman to cross the finish line.



Her time was 4:14:00.
