RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A local shelter, Safe Haven for Cats, is asking for your help after they rescued 30 cats that survived Hurricane Irma.

They need help finding forever homes for the cats on their adoption floor as they treat the cats who've come in after the hurricane from Jacksonville, Floria, this past weekend.

Pam Miller, the founder and president of Safe Haven for Cats, said most of the hurricane survivor cats are owner surrenders.

The group includes 26 kittens and four adult cats, and while they won't be on the adoption floor for about another two weeks, they're urging folks to adopt and help them make space in the shelter.

"We need to make room for the hurricane evacuees," the shelter posted on its Facebook. "The shelter is at capacity due to a high volume summer kitten season. We need the community to adopt as many of the cats currently at the shelter."

Safe Haven for Cats currently has about 65 other cats in-house and 40 others in foster care.

The shelter is located 8435 Garvey Dr. #137 Raleigh, NC 27616.
