A very special homecoming
Sanderson High School PALS ask their peers to homecoming

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The group Passing Along Lifelong Smiles orchestrated a touching surprise for some special needs students at Sanderson High School.

The group, better known as PALS, pairs 12 students with special needs classmates. They eat lunch together, play games, do projects, and more.

This year, the PALS decided homecoming dates would be extra special, so they surprised their peers with signs and balloons.

PALS president Jacquelyn Hedrick said shes proud to be a part of this incredible program.

"The goal of PALS is to try and create interaction between regular ed students and special ed students so they can forge relationships, [and get] help with socialization and communication skills they really struggle with," Hedrick said.

The homecoming dance was on Friday night.
