Anonymous donor gives $10,000 check for bulletproof vests to Cumberland County Sheriff's Office
CUMBERLAND COUNTY (WTVD) -- A Fayetteville family was concerned about the safety of Cumberland County deputies and decided to help out. They gave a $10,000 check so the sheriff's office could buy bulletproof vests.
The family wanted to "help protect those who protect us," and decided to donate after they learned the county didn't have the budget to buy the equipment.
They called Sheriff Butler and asked about giving to the Sheriff's Office and learned they could give directly to the law-enforcement agency. The sheriff said the family told them they would be donating some amount, but didn't say how much.
The Sheriff's office said they were overwhelmed with the concern, kindness, and generosity when the $10,000 was delivered. But the check came with a stipulation: The donor's name had to remain anonymous and the sheriff would also tell anyone else wanting to donate to a bulletproof vest fund that they could do so.
"In troubled times like these for law-enforcement a grand gesture such as this speaks volumes for the relationship that the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office has with our community," said Sheriff Moose Butler.
Chief Deputy Ennis Wright also expressed his thanks and said he's grateful "for the people we protect and serve."
